The all-new Kreg® Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO, Pocket-Hole Jig 720, and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO have some big differences from our previous Pocket-Hole Jigs that help suit people who build in different ways, in different places, and with different building challenges.  That’s because when we redesigned our Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig lineup from the ground up, we didn’t take the task lightly. We went beyond how the jigs function, and took a long, hard look into how they get used. We know that not everyone builds the same projects. We know they don’t all get built in the same kinds of workspaces. We especially know those projects don’t all get built in the same ways. Because of these things, we knew that we couldn’t create a one-size-fits-all Pocket-Hole Jig. So, we didn’t.

In this article, we will detail the benefits of the features that we have packed into our all-new Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig lineup to get you building faster and to help you build wherever you want to. We’ll also show you how these jigs deliver the functionality that you expect from Kreg but in reimagined ways. Read on. We think you’ll like what you see.

1. Setup Has Never Been This Simple

When you’re ready to work on a project, the last thing you want to do is spend a bunch of time getting set up. You want to get building. The new Kreg Pocket-Hole Jigs make setting up to create pocket holes a lot easier than it has ever been before.

Material thickness gauge: Making measuring easy

The Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO, Pocket-Hole Jig 720, and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO all come with a gauge that makes it easy to determine the thickness of the material you’re using.

Thickness is important because it determines drill-bit setup, drill guide position, and the length of pocket-hole screw you’ll need for assembly. With this new generation of Kreg Pocket-Hole Jigs, all you have do is hold the material thickness gauge alongside your material, and you can easily see what thickness range it matches. Then you can set up the drill bit and the jig.

Easy-set drill bit: A window on success

Kreg Easy-Set Pocket-Hole Drill Bits—included with all pocket-hole jigs—make it easy to set your bit for the correct drilling depth.

To set up the bit, just line up the window in the stop collar with the etched 1/2″, 3/4″, or 1 1/2″ marking on the bit—just like the marks on the material thickness gauge. Then tighten the collar using the hex wrench built into the gauge. That’s it. Your drill bit is ready to go.

On the Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and 720PRO, you’ll find settings for additional material thicknesses built into the drill-bit storage area on the jig. That means, if you work with different thicknesses of hardwoods, you can set your drill bit depth to match exactly.

Drill guide presets: Simple setup for the 520PRO

On the Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO, you only need to do one more thing to ensure perfectly positioned pocket holes.

Just position the drill guide at one of the three positive stops that, once again, correspond to your material thickness range: 1/2″, 3/4″, or 1 1/2″. Now you’re set to drill as many pocket holes as you need, confident that they’ll all be accurate and you’ll end up with strong, lasting joints.

Automaxx One-Motion Clamping: Ultimate setup ease for the 720 and 720PRO

With the Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO, you’re done with setup once you set the stop collar on the bit.

That’s because these jigs have Automaxx® One-Motion Clamping. It positions the drill guide at the proper position for every material thickness as it secures your workpiece, which you can read about below.

2. Build Faster and Build More

Pocket-hole joinery makes it possible to build projects fast and build them to last. The Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO, Pocket-Hole Jig 720, and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO take this to new levels by making you more efficient with every pocket hole you drill.

Quick-Reset: Making clamping faster for the 520PRO

Drilling a lot of pocket holes means you’ll clamp and unclamp your workpieces multiple times. The 520PRO makes that easy.

This jig features an easy-to squeeze handle that allows you to clamp your workpieces without much effort. To reduce effort even more, there’s a Quick-Reset feature. Just clamp your workpiece, and then turn the Quick-Reset dial to limit movement of the drill guide to match that thickness. You’ll be able to clamp every piece of that same thickness with just a squeeze or two of the handle.

Clamping is even more effective thanks to the GripMaxx™ surface that holds your workpiece in place without slipping, and without requiring excessive clamping force that makes the job harder and could mar your workpiece.

Automaxx® One-Motion clamping: Ultimate efficiency with the 720 and 720PRO

The Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO make clamping incredibly easy.

Dual-action clamping on the Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO means you’ll never have to adjust the drill guide to get great results. The jig does it for you automatically every time you clamp a workpiece—whether it’s 1/2″ thick, 1 1/2″ thick, or anywhere in between.

Clamping is easier than ever, too, thanks to a large GripMaxx® surface that holds your workpiece in place without slipping and without requiring excessive clamping force. And you can customize the amount of clamping force you want with the simple turn of a dial.

Dust collection: Enhancing drilling efficiency with the 720 and 720PRO

The Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO make you even more efficient with an included dust-collection blade.

Collecting the chips made while you drill saves a lot of cleanup time by minimizing the mess. Plus, it allows you to drill holes faster by getting that material out of the way of the spinning bit.

The dust-collection blade included with the 720 and 720PRO slides in easily from either side. And it comes with an adapter that allows you to connect the three most-common sizes of vacuum hoses.

Integrated storage: Keeping everything close at hand

The Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO help you spend more time building, and less time finding your supplies.

The Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO make sure you have everything close at hand thanks to onboard storage for the drill and driver bits, as well as the material thickness gauge.

The 720PRO also comes with the Docking Station, so you have a place to keep the Pocket-Hole Jig Clamp and Adjustable Stop, as well as pocket-hole screws and other supplies. You can always add the Docking Station to the Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO to add storage capabilities to these jigs, as well.

Supports plus stops: Making repeat drilling operations easy

Some projects call for drilling pocket holes in the exact same locations in multiple workpieces. These jigs make it easy.

One of the great things about pocket-hole joinery is that, most of the time, exact positioning of the pocket holes isn’t necessary. But for times when you want to place holes exactly–and then repeat it over and over again–you’ll appreciate the Repeatable Stop that comes with the Kreg Docking Station. You can lock the stop in exactly where you need it on either material support wing. Then just place your workpiece against the stop, clamp it in place, and you’ll know the pocket holes will be located in exactly the same position every time you drill.

3. Pocket-Hole Jigs That Grow With You

Chances are you’re buying a Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig with a specific project in mind. But you’ll soon discover that pocket-hole joinery makes building so easy, that you’re desire to build projects will grow. You’ll want to build more projects of more kinds. As your project-building grows, your Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig’s capabilities can grow with you.

Kreg Docking Station: Add storage and support to any jig

The Kreg Docking Station is great for supporting larger workpieces, and for creating onboard storage. You can get the Docking Station at the start, or add it later easily.

If you start with the Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO, you’ll get the Docking Station, along with the capabilities it brings. If you started with the 520PRO or the 720, though, you can add the Docking Station later. It works with both jigs. Whatever way you go, adding the Docking Station doesn’t commit you to using your Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig that way. You can easily remove the jig from the station any time you want–no tools required.

Micro-Pocket™ Drill Guides: Expand your pocket-hole possibilities

Standard Kreg pocket holes work great for most projects, but there are times when a smaller pocket hole might be better.

When you’re working with 1/2″-thck materials, you’re working with narrow pieces, or you want to make the pocket-holes easier to hide, check out the Micro-Pocket™ Drill Guide. You’ll find a Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO Micro-Pocket™ Drill Guide, and Pocket-Hole Jig 720/720PRO Micro-Pocket™ Drill Guide.

The Micro-Pocket hole is 25% smaller than a standard pocket hole, and it uses Kreg Pan-Head Pocket-Hole Screws. They have a smaller head, but still offer tremendous holding power to create strong joints.

Custom Plug Cutter: Create your own plugs to make pocket-holes disappear

A lot of times you can hid your pocket holes by locating them where they won’t be seen. Another way to hide pocket holes is to plug them after project assembly.

We offer premade plugs, but with the Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO, you can make your own custom plugs. The Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter fits in place of the jig’s drill guide, and the cutter can be used to make your own plugs using leftover wood from your project. That means you can match the color and grain for plugs that will practically disappear.

3. Ready for Any Environment

When you buy a Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig, you’re buying a tool that’s built to last through many projects and many years. With Kreg, you’re buying a tool that you can use wherever you like to build, and that you can use for a lifetime.

Pocket-Hole Jig 720If you have a workshop space–or at least a workbench–that you use most of the time, the Pocket-Hole Jig 720 and 720PRO are made for you. They’re designed for benchtop use, so you can build in that environment as quickly and efficiently as possible. Of course, you can still take these jigs with you when you want to.

Pocket-Hole Jig 520PROIf you build in multiple locations or you don’t have a dedicated workspace with a workbench, then the Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO may be more suited to your style. It’s designed to offer great pocket-hole jig features in a portable package. Of course, you can clamp it to your workbench when you want to, or pair it with the Docking Station to get the best of both worlds.

Strength from within: Steel-reinforced construction

To make these jigs user-friendly and durable, Kreg uses a combination of materials.

The Pocket-Hole Jig 520PRO, Pocket-Hole Jig 720, and Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO are all built from durable, high-quality polymers that allow them to be made more ergonomic and easier to handle. Plus, the jigs have steel reinforcing spines that add rigidity and strength in key areas to ensure that the jigs will last.

Kreg drill guides are also made from hardened steel to ensure that they’ll last for thousands and thousands of drilling cycles. Plus, the drill guides are backed by a lifetime warranty. That means if you ever have a problem with a drill guide, Kreg will replace it, so you won’t have to worry about having a tool you can’t use.
