Mudroom Bench with Shoe Storage
This mudroom bench is not only a place to sit while putting on your shoes, but it is also a place to keep your shoes neatly tucked away and up off the floor. I added a second shelf exclusively for slippers to keep them clean and dirt free.
Directions
-
Step 1
Cut all of your pieces as stated in the cut list and drill your pocket holes in the 2x4 boards. This plan requires pocket holes at each end of every 2x4 cut.
-
Step 2
Attach (2) 39" boards and (2) 13" boards 1" up on the 4x4 legs using 2 1/2" pocket hole screws and wood glue.
-
Step 3
Attach 2 of the 39" 1x4 cuts and 2 of the 46" 1x4 cuts over the 2x4s using wood glue and 1 1/4" brad nails. Space them 2" apart.

Overview
The measurements for this bench are 48x22x18.5". It is pretty deep and can be adjusted in the plans if you would like it a little thinner. But this depth allows you to have a coat rack above the bench and still be able to sit without having coats in your way.
-
Step 4
Repeat Step 3 adding the 2x4 boards 11" up from the bottom of the 4x4 legs.
-
Step 5
Add (1) 13" piece on either end, between the 4x4s, 15.5" up from the bottom. You will want the pocket holes facing up for these pieces. It will make it easier to attach them and the pocket holes will be covered by the top.
-
Step 6
Attach the 2x6 boards to the top of the bench using wood glue and 2 1/2" nails. Leave a one inch overhang on all sides.
