Directions

  • Cut & Prep Panels

    DISCLAIMER: This dog bed was built for a 16 pound Alaskan Klee Kai (medium sized dog). Please moderate these plans as necessary to fit your best friend.

    Cut and prep your 2 side panels, 1 back panel, and 1 front panel. Each one will need pocket holes to attach to the legs later on.

    You can also take time here to cut and prep your 2 x 2 x 9 1/4" legs as well (not shown).

    Step 1

  • Begin Adding Decorative Pieces

    Your two side panels and front panel will receive decorative poplar pieces. These will each be custom cut at a 45 degree angle and attached with wood glue (and optional, brad nails). Do not cover the pocket holes in this step, as we will be attaching the panels before filling in the blanks.

    Step 2

  • Attach Panels to Legs

    Attach the back panel first, as this piece will not be getting a decorative design. Make sure to center the panel on the legs as it is shorter than the legs.

    Step 3

  • Attach Side and Front Panels to Leg

    Attach the side and front panels to the legs with 1" pocket hole screws and wood glue.

    Step 4

  • Fill In The Blanks

    Once your panels are all screwed in and centered, begin to add the missing decorative pieces to your panels with wood glue (and optional, brad nails).

    Step 5

  • Attach Bottom Panel

    Next, attach your 19 x 22" plywood bottom panel to the dog bed with 1" pocket hole screws and wood glue.

    Step 6

  • Add Final Touches

    Following assembly, sand and stain your piece. I decided to go au natural and just use a satin polyurethane to finish the piece.

    Once dry, add a 26 x 26" euro pillow to the bed for a nice fluffy pad.

    Step 7

  • Add Trim

    Hide your rough edges by attaching 3/4 x 2" poplar trim to the top of your dog bed panels.
