Workbench Paper Roll Dispenser
Add this paper roll dispenser to the end of your workbench and protect its surface from paint and stain drips. It would also work perfectly for a kids art table!
Directions
-
Measure the paper roll
The size of the paper roll will determine the cut dimensions for the wood. I transferred the paper from my huge roll to a 1" dowel until it was about 3" in diameter.
-
Making the bracket
After you've measured the paper roll, add about 1" to those dimensions to give the roll a bit of wiggle room. Then cut two pieces of plywood or 1x lumber to those measurements. I used scrap pieces of plywood, so mine are random widths, but the same length. I cut mine to 24 3/4" x 5" and 24 3/4" x 3 5/8". The wider piece will be attached to the workbench legs.
Drill pocket holes along one long edge and the two ends of one piece. For the other piece, drill pocket holes just on the ends.
Join the two pieces together with 1 1/4" pocket hole screws to create an L shape.
-
Cut the end pieces
Cut two pieces of plywood or 1x lumber to fit on the ends of your L shaped bracket. Mine are 5" x 3 5/8". Then cut out a channel for the dowel to slip into with a jig saw or scroll saw. This will make it easy to get the dowel out when you need to replace the paper, but will stay in when you're rolling out the paper.
-
Attach the end pieces
Attach the end pieces to the L shaped bracket with 1 1/4" pocket hole screws, then check the fit of the paper roll. Trim the dowel so that there is an inch sticking out on either side of the paper roll dispenser, then cap the ends with rubber chair tips.

Attach to workbench
I mounted my paper roll dispenser to the legs of my Kreg workbench, which has pre-drilled holes. I held the bracket where I wanted to mount it and marked the location through the holes. I drilled a 5/16" hole at those spots and used a bolt and nut to mount the dispenser in place.
