Hideaway Gift Wrap Center
Closet space is very limited at my house, so I hate to waste it with bulky gift wrap supplies. This hideaway gift wrap center rolls under the bed. Organize up to 6 large rolls of wrapping paper and/or ribbons, tulle, scissors, bows, tape, etc. Run the paper thru the back and wrap on the large top.
Directions
-
Drill pocket holes
Cut all of the parts out according to cut list and diagram. Sand the boards smooth. Drill pocket holes for 3/4" material around the perimeter of the bottom piece (bottom side). Drill pocket holes for 3/4" material in both ends of the side pieces, leave 3/4" near the bottom of the side for the bottom piece to go.
-
Attach Sides
Attach the two side pieces to the bottom piece on the 27 1/2" side. Use wood glue and 1 1/4" pocket hole screws to secure sides to bottom, make side pieces flush with bottom face.
-
Attach Front/Back
Attach Front/Back pieces to the bottom piece. Use wood glue and 1 1/4" pocket hole screws to secure Front/Back to bottom. Make Front/Back flush with bottom face. Attach Side pieces to Front/Back pieces with wood glue and 1 1/4" pocket hole screws.
-
Drill Holes for Dowels
From the bottom of the dowel support boards, measure up 1 3/4", measure across 1 3/4", 5 1/4", 8 3/4", 12 1/4", 15 3/4", 19 1/4". Drill 7/8" diameter holes in these locations (a hole saw may be useful). On one of the boards cut slots from the holes to the top to allow the dowel to slide in.
-
Assemble Dividers
**The dividers can be placed at whatever distance that is convenient for your supplies.**
On the long divider, measure and mark about 10 1/4" from each end. Secure the short dividers to the long divider with 1 1/4" brad nails. Secure the long and short divider to front and sides with 1 1/4" brad nails. Attach the dowel supports to the inside side pieces with 1 1/4" brad nails. The 1 3/4" side of the dowel supports should be down. -
Hinges and Accessories
Attach the top to the back piece with 1 1/2" or larger utility hinges, one on each end. This will leave a gap that you can feed wrapping paper thru to give you a continuous feed while wrapping! If desired, add 4 small casters to the bottom and 2 handles to the front. Place the 3/4" dowels into the holes and slide the other end down the slot. Paint or stain the gift wrap center as desired.
